Summer Shopping Guide: Classy and Comfortable Must-Haves for 2024

Hi, ladies! It’s mid-June and boiling-hot here in Greece! Summer is definitely here and, in fact, it came around too fast! Time for some wise shopping! So, considering that every summer is much warmer than the previous one, here are the top five things on my shopping list this season, for classy but comfortable and safe appearances.

1. Sunglasses: First on my shopping list is a high-quality pair of dark sunglasses. High-quality sunglasses that block out 99%-100% of harmful UV rays are a wise investment for both my eye health and overall comfort. Vision is our finest and most vulnerable sense, so protecting it is a no-brainer. To prevent eye diseases -including eye cancer, for which I have undergone one surgery already- as well as frequent expensive visits, I am opting for a dark pair with a robust and wide frame, such as this MARC JACOBS MARC 722/S 80790 56mm pair, which is high-end but durable and has lenses offering real protection. Of course, the go-to place to shop for high-quality glasses is always an optical store. Every country is different, but here in Greece optical stores are run exclusively by specilised optometrists, who possess the instruments needed to measure the quality of an eye lens. Last summer I tried the cheap option from a cosmetics brand and here I am today looking for another pair of glasses, because both the cheap frame and lenses really overheat!

2. Sunscreen with a high SPF: Sunscreen is essential to prevent melanoma and premature aging. Personally, I use only 50-SPF sunscreen, which allows my Mediterranean skin to acquire a fine beige colour. As a result, not only do I feel protected, but I also don’t have to worry about those ugly white marks! My morning routine on a normal day includes anti-aging face creams with an SPF above 15, but when I am out and about -especially on a beach day- I swear by this PIZ BUIN Alergy 50+ face cream and this PIZ BUIN Alergy 50+ skin lotion for dry and sensitive skin. Of course, I never forget my after-sun, which replenishes moisture and relieves from sunburns; my favorite product is PIZ BUIN After Sun with hyaluronic acid. This summer I aim at remembering my hair as well, athough I am still examining my options.

3. Big hats: In my younger years, I would laugh at someone wearing a big hat, because I didn’t think it was necessary. But now, I feel that I can’t be out in the sun without one. It’s not only about elevating one’s style; it’s also about protecting oneself from the early symptoms of heatstroke (e.g. headache) and, of course, protecting oneself against skin damage. I have my eyes at something simple with discrete details, such as this GUESS straw hat with the cute chain , which I saw on offer on Modivo.gr.

4. Flat sandals: A pair of flat sandals is essential in the summer, especially in warm countries like Greece. Comfortable, versatile and available in all shapes and forms, they are a must-have for me. They contribute to my foot health allowing my feet to breathe and stay dry, while allowing them to walk naturally. I love this leather Eva Minge pair from Modivo.gr, which has an excellent sole ensuring a steady pace on any terrain!

5. Formal dresses made of light fabrics: Oh, summer! The season of romantic ceremonies and coctail parties! And the season of sweat and mosquitoes! How can we look and behave classy when the environmental conditions are against us? Dresses made of light fabrics and pastel colours, combined with elegant updoes and light makeup can save the situation! I love this playful floral sleeveless dress with a belt by Anna Raxevsky, a well-established designer here in Greece.

And there you have them, my classy ladies! The top five items of my shopping list this summer!
